Saudi Arabia Warns of Threats to Gulf Waterways
Saudi Arabia has warned that attempts to disrupt key waterways in the Middle East could pose a threat to global energy security.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called for greater international efforts to protect freedom of navigation and respond to threats to regional waterways.
He said the international community must take greater responsibility in addressing developments that threaten international peace and security.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions surrounding strategic maritime routes in the region, including the Strait of Hormuz, a major passage for global energy shipments.
