Williams Sisters Lose Thriller In Return to US Open

NEW YORK: Serena and Venus Williams lost their return to the US Open women's doubles competition on Friday, falling to Chan Hao-ching and Maya Joint in three sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The superstar sisters suffered a 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 defeat in front of a raucous crowd.
After dropping the opening set, the Williams sisters hit 20 winners in the second set to level the match. They rallied from a third-set deficit to build a 5-0 lead in the final 10-point tiebreaker before Chan and Joint fought back superbly to win.
The match was the first time Venus, 46, and Serena, 44, played Grand Slam doubles together since the 2022 US Open.
The pair have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together, including two US Open titles, though they had not won a major together since Roland Garros in 2018.
For Serena Williams, who recently returned to singles play as a Wimbledon wild card, the match was her first appearance at Flushing Meadows since evolving away from the game. Joint called playing against such legends super special.
