Miami:A federal jury in Miami has convicted four men for their roles in the 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. The defendants Arcangel Pretel Ortiz, Antonio Intriago, Walter Veintemilla, and James Solages were linked to a Florida-based private security firm.
Prosecutors revealed the group was motivated by the prospect of securing lucrative contracts following Moïse's ouster.
The charges included conspiracy to kill or kidnap the president and violating the US Neutrality Act. Moïse was gunned down at his residence in July 2021 by Colombian mercenaries, an event that has since left Haiti without a president and under significant gang control.
While the Haitian investigation stalled, US courts took jurisdiction as the plot was hatched on American soil. The four men now face potential life sentences, joining five others already sentenced to life in this ongoing pursuit of justice.
