UoB issues certificates using Blockchain technology

The University of Bahrain announced issuing degrees and certificates of graduation using blockchain technology for the past four years. “This allows universities and business entities to verify the credibility of the academic certificates electronically within a short time,” said UoB in a statement.

The technology also allows people to share their certificates on social media without fear of getting hoodwinked. “Students can now avoid applying for an original copy each time they approach an educational institution or an employer,” UoB said. The digital university certificate can be sent via e-mail or text messages or as a link in the CV or LinkedIn for verification.

Students, UoB said, can receive their certificates via e-mail and save them in the Blockcert secure phone application designed to receive, store and share the University of Bahrain digital certificate.

To obtain the digital certificate, download the free application on the phone, add the University of Bahrain as an issuer, then add the certificate to the application. The application allows saving as many certificates from different institutions in one place in an encrypted form.

“Thus, a student is solely responsible for managing the application and ensuring that the password is kept safe,” UoB said. However, if a student loses the password, contact the university to re-issue the digital certificate.

The University of Bahrain has applied this technology to graduate degrees in 2019 and then to bachelor’s degrees gradually.
