Kingdom highlights role of dialogue in preventive diplomacy at UN meeting
The Kingdom of Bahrain has highlighted the importance of dialogue, coexistence and tolerance in supporting preventive diplomacy during a high-level meeting of the Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations in New York.
Hatem Abdulhamid Hatem, Chief of the Organisations Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in the meeting, which was held at the United Nations headquarters on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting was chaired by Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and Special Envoy on Combating Islamophobia.
Discussions focused on the Alliance’s key achievements and future priorities, as well as its efforts to promote dialogue and understanding among different cultures and religions.
Participants also reviewed initiatives aimed at strengthening preventive diplomacy and addressing hate speech, intolerance and other challenges that can undermine social cohesion and peaceful relations between communities.
During Bahrain’s intervention, Hatem highlighted the role of dialogue as an important tool in preventive diplomacy. He also presented the Kingdom’s experience in promoting coexistence and tolerance, reflecting Bahrain’s approach to encouraging understanding and respect among people of different cultural and religious backgrounds.
The Bahraini intervention also addressed the priorities of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations for the coming period and the importance of continued international cooperation in advancing its objectives.
The participation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the meeting forms part of its engagement in multilateral efforts aimed at promoting dialogue between cultures and religions, combating intolerance and hate speech, and supporting peaceful and inclusive societies.
