Cultural Passport to be launched

Manama

To celebrate World Tourism Day, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities will launch Cultural Passport at the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage to rediscover and experience the cultural and historical charm of the Kingdom.

For the promotion of Bahraini culture and identity, the Cultural Passport represents travelling through cultural touristic sites in which the holder of the passport can dedicate their time to visiting 21 cultural sites.

The Cultural Tourism passport campaign will be starting from October where participants can collect and hold their passports from Bahrain National Museum, Bahrain Fort Museum, Riffa Fort, Bait Al Qur’an and Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Centre for Culture and Research.

The holder of the Cultural Passport will be able to get a chance by winning one of the 21 tickets at random to travel in various cultural sites around the world once the holder completes collecting stamps from 21 cultural sites, where the winners will be announced during the National Day celebrations.

The Cultural Tourism passport can be obtained as a soft copy online. During the event, President of Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa said, “We are strengthening the presence of our heritage in the consciousness of every citizen as it promotes the local public to visit cultural sites in Bahrain. We want to offer our citizens, residents and tourists a new experience in the discovery of Bahrain.”

Director of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage Director Dr. Mounir Bouchenaki commented: “Tourism is an orbiting mergence of different people and is able to promote mutual cultural understanding.”

“Cultural tourism has become one of the priorities of UNESCO’s programmes for the promotion of archeological sites in Bahrain,” he added.
