The High Criminal Court of Appeal upheld a one-year prison sentence against a 32-year-old Bahraini man convicted of assaulting an Asian motorcyclist, causing permanent injuries. The court also ordered the defendant to pay BD54 in compensation for damage caused to the victim’s motorcycle.

According to court records, the incident stemmed from a dispute over the right of way on a public road before escalating into a violent confrontation.

The 20-year-old victim told investigators that the defendant threw two perfume bottles at him while he was riding his motorcycle. After stopping on the roadside, the defendant allegedly approached him, smashed the motorcycle’s front lights, and punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.

The assault left the victim with multiple injuries, including wounds beneath his right eye, on his mouth, right thigh, and left hand. He also lost two lower front teeth as a result of the attack.

A witness testified that he saw the defendant throw the perfume bottles at the motorcyclist. After the victim stopped, the witness observed him sitting on the ground while the defendant kicked him three times.

During questioning, the defendant admitted to punching the victim and damaging the motorcycle.

A forensic medical report confirmed that the injuries were consistent with the assault and required more than 20 days of treatment. The report further concluded that the loss of two teeth resulted in a permanent disability assessed at 3 per cent.
