US Clears Paramount’s Warner Bros Mega-Merger

Washington: The United States Justice Department has approved Paramount Skydance's proposed takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery cleared a crucial regulatory hurdle for the about $110 billion media merger. According to officials, an eight-month antitrust study determined that the purchase was unlikely to affect competition or consumers in streaming, television, or film production.
The merger will bring major entertainment assets such as HBO Max, CNN, CBS, Paramount Pictures, and Warner Bros. under one corporate tent, forming one of the world's largest media and streaming businesses. Paramount contends that the transaction will boost its ability to compete with global technology and streaming titans.
The deal requires several international regulatory licenses before it can be completed, and it still faces potential legal challenges from a number of U.S. states despite federal approval. The merger may result in employment losses and further media consolidation, according to critics.
