A parliamentary committee has approved a proposal to introduce regular Arabic-language debates, poetry and literature competitions across Bahrain’s schools and universities.
The Services Committee unanimously backed the initiative submitted by MPs Muneer Suroor, Lulwa Al Rumaihi, Basma Mubarak, Abdulla Al Rumaihi and Mohammed Al Ahmed.
The proposal calls for coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Information to organise structured debate and literary events aimed at strengthening students’ public speaking, critical thinking and Arabic language skills.
Lawmakers said the initiative builds on existing student talent, noting that debate activities are already gaining momentum in several educational institutions. Bahraini students have also achieved success on the international stage, including a recent victory in a global schools debate competition involving participants from more than 30 countries.
The Ministry of Information welcomed the proposal, describing it as a step that supports national efforts to promote Arabic language and literary culture while helping identify and nurture young talent.
The committee recommended the proposal for parliamentary approval, saying it would enhance both educational and cultural development across the Kingdom.
