Cairo: Egypt has urged the United States and Iran to seize a ‘available opportunity’ to negotiate a diplomatic compromise, following U.S. President Donald Trump's reported decision to cancel potential military attacks against Iran while backchannel conversations continue.

According to Egyptian diplomatic sources and regional publications, Cairo believes both Washington and Tehran should act quickly to avoid further escalation and instead seek a negotiated settlement that may reduce tensions throughout the Middle East. Egypt stressed that the current pause in military operations provides a rare opportunity for open discussion.

The proposal is made in light of the upsurge of tensions between the US and Iran prior to new diplomatic efforts. Although no formal agreement has been reached, sources suggest that discussions may cover more comprehensive security arrangements, such as nuclear understandings and regional de-escalation measures.

Egypt emphasised the need for diplomacy and patience, warning that failing to take advantage of the situation could lead to a new disputes with wider regional impacts.
