Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, held formal talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Thursday, as part of an official visit aimed at deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.

FM Lavrov warmly welcomed his Bahraini counterpart, highlighting the historical friendship between the two nations and noting the steady growth of cooperation across economic, trade, investment, cultural, and humanitarian sectors. Both sides acknowledged last year’s milestone—the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations—and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening ties.

Al Zayani conveyed greetings from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to President Vladimir Putin and the Russian people.

The discussions covered critical regional developments, including the consequences of Iranian aggression against Bahrain and Gulf Cooperation Council states, and the impact of restrictions on freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz on global energy security, food supplies, and international trade. Both ministers also reviewed Pakistani mediation efforts to end hostilities and reopen the strategic waterway.

The two sides discussed coordinating positions at the UN Security Council, where Bahrain holds a non-permanent seat for 2026-2027 alongside Russia’s permanent membership, particularly regarding the Hormuz crisis and its broader implications for regional stability.
