Kyiv: Three civilians were killed and several more injured in the most recent encounter of attacks between Russia and Ukraine, as both sides continued with distant drone and missile strikes amid increased international efforts for a ceasefire.

According to Ukrainian sources, Russian strikes targeted residential areas in northeastern Kharkiv, killing three people, including a pregnant lady, and causing damage to residences, businesses, and infrastructure. Emergency services had been sent to the affected areas while rescue teams sifted through the debris.

Meanwhile, Russia reported Ukrainian drone attacks in many districts, with authorities reporting damage to buildings and infrastructure. Both countries deployed air defence systems overnight after accusing each other of attacking residential areas.

The latest attacks come as European leaders step up diplomatic attempts to get Moscow and Kyiv back to the negotiation table. However, fighting on the front lines and regular cross-border strikes highlight the challenge of achieving a peace deal after more than four years of war.

With drone warfare becoming more important in the fight, civilians on both sides remain at risk of unexpected attacks, adding to the humanitarian toll of a war that shows no signs of ending.
