Washington: President Donald Trump declared on Friday that Héctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, also known as ‘Niño Guerrero,’ the head of the Tren de Aragua gang in Venezuela, had been killed by the US military in a planned attack.

The operation, which Trump described as a ‘swift and lethal kinetic strike’ on what he described as one of the most dangerous criminal organisations in the world, was carried out by U.S. Southern Command under his supervision.

According to official reports, the attack began earlier this week and targeted the Tren de Aragua property in Venezuela. Pentagon officials verified Guerrero's death during the operation.

The United States has consistently accused Tren de Aragua of drug trafficking, human smuggling, robbery, and violent crime in Latin America and other regions, and it has previously identified it as a foreign terrorist organization.

Venezuelan authorities reportedly confirmed the murder during a ‘joint operation,’ citing intelligence cooperation and fights with armed criminal organisations.
The airstrike signals a major step up in Washington's campaign against multinational organisations operating in Venezuela, which the Trump administration has increasingly viewed as national security threat.
