Jordanian hematologist treats 50 patients at SMC

ManamaThe Health Ministry recently hosted a hematology and stem cell specialist at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) as part of a medical consultants programme to treat patients with sickle cell anaemia and blood diseases.

The specialist, Dr. Eyad Ahmed, is the head of the hematology centre and the bone marrow and stem cell transplantation centre of Istishari Hospital in Jordan.

The visit was arranged to provide medical advice to inpatients, who suffer from blood diseases, sickle cell anaemia and patients who are in need of bone marrow transplant. During his visit, Dr. Ahmed examined more than 50 patients at the multi-disciplinary clinic in the genetic blood diseases medical centre.

SMC diagnostic affairs deputy chief Dr. Raja Al Yusuf confirmed that the main objective of organising these visits is to share experiences between the medical staff and to improve the quality of health services. The organisers believe that such visits would bring easy access to efficient medical services without the trouble of travelling abroad.

Dr. Al Yusuf also confirmed that patients can take direct appointments for consulting Dr Ahmed.
