Sharjah airport road will be shut for 5 hours from today
Sharjah: Passengers flying through the Sharjah International Airport need to be careful about their timing as a key arterial road will be closed partially for two weeks.
Official sources at the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) late on Sunday told Khaleej Times that the move is meant to enhance traffic flow and boost the efficiency of the roads in the emirate.
The SRTA alerted motorists to use alternative roads as the King Faisal Bridge and the Intersection-4 Bridge of the Sharjah-Dhaid road, known as the Sharjah International Airport Bridge, will be closed for five hours from midnight until August 22.
"The regular and emergency maintenance works, which kicked off on Sunday, are to be carried out in phases and at night only to avoid any disruption for traffic flow."
"The first stage, in the direction from the King Faisal road to the Central Market, involves the development of the first lane of the King Faisal Bridge over the period from August 07 to 22."
The development of the second lane, in the direction from the Central Market to the King Faisal road, will then be initiated for 15 days, they added.
"These regular maintenance works, which are to be done in collaboration with the Sharjah Police and the Dubai International Airport Authority, will not affect traffic flow."
The same sources stated that the Intersection-4 Bridge of the Sharjah-Dhaid road leading to the Sharjah International Airport will go through emergency maintenance in the direction from Sharjah city to Al Dhaid.
However, only two of the four lanes will be shut down for maintenance.
The public is also urged to call the RTA Sharjah call centre round the clock at (600525252) for feedbacks, inquiries, remarks and complaints.
All road and transport projects are designed to accommodate current and future needs of urban expansion in the region, enhance traffic flow, and raise the standard of living of residents therein, they said.
"The Authority is dedicated to improve the quality of roads to cope with the underway plans for urban development and economic and tourism, as well as the steady increase of population and the movement of transport."
