Trump warns US could strike Iran’s fortified Pickaxe Mountain

Washington DC : US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could strike Iran’s heavily fortified Pickaxe Mountain site ‘very soon’, raising the prospect of a fresh escalation in the conflict.

Pickaxe Mountain is near the damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility and contains two tunnel complexes buried deep underground.

Trump described the conflict with Iran as ‘small potatoes’ for the US, playing down its scale a day after Vice President JD Vance said he would not call it a war.

The comments come as Washington maintains pressure on Tehran while leaving open the possibility of further military action.

Trump has at times signalled progress in talks or stepped back from threatened strikes, particularly when tensions have unsettled global markets.

Analysts say the administration is trying to avoid both a major expansion of the fighting and making significant concessions to Iran, particularly over the Strait of Hormuz.

The US also changed its official military casualty classification in July, replacing the term ‘war’ with ‘Overseas Operations’ for soldiers killed or wounded in such operations.
