Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said his government is continuing to mobilize all necessary efforts to advance the difficult negotiation process aimed at protecting Lebanon's rights and national interests.

Salam said particular attention was being given to residents of southern Lebanon, to ensure their safe return to their homes and villages and restore full state sovereignty over Lebanese territory.

He described the return of any Lebanese detainee safely to the country as an important step toward resolving the issue, while reaffirming the government's commitment to securing the release of all detainees, determining the fate of missing persons and achieving a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Lebanon and Israel signed a US-brokered framework agreement in late June covering security arrangements, the redeployment of the Lebanese Army in the south, reconstruction measures and efforts to revive the economy. However, most provisions of the agreement have yet to be implemented.
