Sharjah: A Sharjah court sentenced a man to six months in jail after he was found guilty of scamming a buyer in a fake wholesale iPhone trade worth Dh692,000. The accused convinced the victim to pay for 160 iPhones, promising to deliver them as promised.

After receiving payment, the individual failed to deliver the phones and stopped interacting with the buyer. Investigations revealed that the transaction was a false scheme designed to get the money without carrying out the promise.

The Fifth Misdemeanour Circuit of the Sharjah Court of First Instance determined that the defendant committed criminal fraud under the UAE Crimes and Punishments Law. In addition to his jail sentence, the court ordered him to pay judicial fees.

The court also referred the victim's petition for financial compensation to civil courts, permitting the victim to ask for compensation for the lost funds through separate legal actions. The decision underlines the UAE's tough stance on commercial fraud and financial scams.
