Starbucks to Close 250 North American Cafes
Starbucks will close approximately 250 coffeehouses across North America later this week as the company continues efforts to improve its financial performance and customer experience.
The company said it reviewed its North American coffeehouse portfolio and identified locations where it does not see a path to acceptable financial performance or the ability to consistently deliver the experience it wants for customers and employees. The closures represent about 1% of Starbucks’ more than 18,000 North American coffeehouses.
The move comes as CEO Brian Niccol continues to implement the company’s “Back to Starbucks” strategy, which focuses on improving service and the in-store customer experience.
Starbucks said it has also been investing in its existing locations, with more than 1,000 coffeehouses redesigned across the US and Canada since late 2025.
The company previously closed additional stores as part of its restructuring efforts. Its latest announcement also comes alongside a reduction in its planned store expansion, with Starbucks saying it expects to open around 440 stores globally in fiscal 2026, compared with its earlier target of 600 to 650.
Starbucks operates more than 41,000 stores globally.
