Trump Says US and China Oppose AI Guardrails Ahead of Xi Summit
US President Donald Trump said early Thursday that the United States and China share opposition to additional legal guardrails for artificial intelligence, ahead of his expected summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Trump said “Super Intelligence,” his term for artificial intelligence, would be an important topic of discussion but indicated that he did not want to elaborate ahead of the meeting.
He said China holds a similar position on AI regulation and pointed to the US Department of Justice as the country’s “guardrail” for the technology.
The comments come as Washington and Beijing continue discussions over the development and regulation of increasingly advanced artificial intelligence systems.
