Taiwan vows to 'strengthen cooperation' with US for deterrence

Taipei: Taiwan has pledged to deepen its security partnership with the United States following President Donald Trump's announcement that American arms sales to the island would be a topic of discussion during his visit to Beijing.
In a briefing held on Tuesday, Taiwan’s foreign ministry spokesman, Hsiao Kuang-wei, emphasized the island’s commitment to building "effective deterrence capabilities" alongside its primary security backer.
The move is aimed at "jointly maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait" as regional tensions remain in the spotlight. While the U.S. and China prepare for high-level talks, Taiwan continues to prioritize its defensive readiness and its strategic alliance with Washington to ensure regional security.
