Sharjah: The body of an Indian woman who allegedly killed her infant daughter before taking her own life in their Sharjah apartment on July 8 has been repatriated to Kerala, India.
The 32-year-old’s remains were flown from Dubai to Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening on a 5:40pm flight, according to a senior community leader from the Sharjah Indian Association, which has been supporting the grieving family.
Several members of the Indian community, the woman’s relatives, and the association’s management committee gathered at the embalming centre for a tearful farewell. “Her mother was inconsolable and almost collapsed in grief,” the community leader told Gulf News.
Infant buried in Dubai
The woman’s 16-month-old daughter was laid to rest days earlier at the New Sonapur Cemetery in Jebel Ali, Dubai. The child’s body was handed over to the father’s family, who chose to conduct the burial in the UAE, in accordance with their religious customs.
A representative from the cemetery confirmed that the burial took place on Thursday.
Investigation into alleged abuse
Meanwhile, the deceased woman’s family has filed a case against the child’s father and his relatives, alleging prolonged domestic abuse led to the tragedy. The man, along with his parents and sister, is currently under investigation.
Authorities are also reviewing a suicide note reportedly written by the woman, which may support the claims of abuse.
