Fund withdrawal chances very slim: Tamkeen COO

The Bahraini government will not take back the fund channelised for Tamkeen, said Amal Al Kooheji, Chief Operating Officer of Tamkeen.

Addressing the media yesterday, the COO said that Tamkeen had actively involved in promoting the economy of the country. Therefore, the government might not re-route the funds reserved for this organisation, she said.

Currently, 80 per cent of the fees received by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) are channelled towards Tamkeen, which is tasked with developing Bahrain’s private sector and positioning it as the key driver of economic development.

Commenting on the cancellation of the annual four per cent training levy on the private sector’s training and transfer of responsibilities of the High Council for Vocational Training to Tamkeen, Kooheji said that Tamkeen had the ability to give best training with the currently available resources.

Tamkeen is the leading entity for delivering vocational training to the private sector, she said adding that it would continue working with the Ministry of Labour and Social Development and all relevant entities to ensure that all the responsibilities of the council

were transferred properly. Highlighting the response for yesterday’s consultation forum, the Tamkeen COO said that they had expected 400 representatives, but as many as 600 people turned up.

“This shows how people are engaged with Tamkeen and how people would like to contribute to Tamkeen,” she said.

Highlighting the need for regular feedback, she said that Tamkeen couldn’t design any programme with only formal research and studies, but listening first hand from the private sectors was also needed.

Last year’s feedback helped Tamkeen to bring a lot of changes, she said.
