Bahrain Cuts NGO Permit Time by 70%

As part of ongoing government efforts to enhance service quality and restructure procedures, Bahrain’s Ministry of Social Development has upgraded its financial permit service for civil society organizations, introducing both fast-track and standard processing routes.

The service provides financial permits to non-governmental organizations under regulated procedures designed to ensure transparency and compliance.

With the new improvements, the time required to complete NGO financial permit applications has been reduced by 70%, reflecting the ministry’s commitment to simplifying procedures and accelerating service delivery while maintaining regulatory oversight.

Assistant Undersecretary for Community Development at the Ministry of Social Development, Eman Mohammed Al-Majed, said the upgrade is part of continued efforts to improve services provided to NGOs and enhance operational efficiency through digital transformation.

She added that reducing processing times will enable organizations to implement their community programs and initiatives more effectively and on time, ensuring a balance between speed of service and adherence to legal and financial regulations. This, she noted, strengthens the role of NGOs as key partners in national development.

The ministry confirmed that applications for financial permits can be submitted electronically through the dedicated NGO system via ngo.social.gov.bh.

The development comes within broader government efforts to improve and redesign public services. So far, more than 1,300 government services have been documented and translated, with 800 services undergoing redesign and improvement across various sectors.

These improvements are based on feedback from the national “Tawasul” system for suggestions and complaints, investor feedback, secret shopper reports, and service-level agreements. The initiatives aim to enhance efficiency, improve service quality, support digital transformation, and strengthen the overall user experience.
