King Hamad American Mission Hospital Embarks on Journey Toward Baby-Friendly Hospital Accreditation
King Hamad American Mission Hospital (AMH) has launched its journey to become a Baby-Friendly Hospital, following the internationally recognized 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding set by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Bahrain.
This milestone follows AMH’s hosting of a successful three-day Breastfeeding Awareness Workshop on April 20–22, in collaboration with the Nutrition Section of the Public Health Directorate at the Ministry of Health. The workshop brought together healthcare professionals across disciplines, reinforcing AMH’s dedication to maternal and child health.
AMH has formed a Baby-Friendly Hospital Committee, with its Charter signed by the Corporate CEO, underscoring leadership commitment to this initiative. The hospital is excited to advance this multi-disciplinary effort, creating a supportive environment where breastfeeding is promoted, protected, and sustained.
“Achieving Baby-Friendly accreditation is not only about meeting global standards, it is about positively impacting population health, empowering mothers, and giving every newborn the best possible start in life,” said Dr. Khadija Alola, Head of Pediatrics.
This initiative reflects AMH’s mission: to provide high-quality healthcare at an affordable cost, based on the principles of compassion, grace, and love. By embedding these values into maternal and child health practices, AMH reaffirms its role as a trusted healthcare partner for the community.
