Breakthrough in Inclusive Education
From Waiting to Learning Together
A simple turn-taking activity in a classroom at Al Hidd Primary Boys School marked a significant step forward for a student with autism, reflecting growing progress in inclusive education through the “Future Heroes” programme.
The initiative, supervised by Senior Special Education Teacher Haya Jassim Hassan, focuses on building motivation, behaviour, and personal development among students with autism and other special educational needs.
Teachers are applying targeted action research to strengthen engagement and support smoother transition into mainstream classrooms. Maryam Isa Murad introduced interactive learning using QR codes, allowing students to choose between digital games and learning programmes, which boosted participation and interest.
In parallel, Fatima Ibrahim Hussein Ashour developed a “spinning wheel” method to teach patience and turn-taking, transforming a key behavioural challenge into a structured learning activity.
Educators say the results are clear, with students showing improved confidence, stronger social interaction, and greater readiness for inclusion.
