Bahrain takes centre stage at UN HQ as HRH PM wins ICT award

Manama

Sustainable Development in Bahrain will come under limelight as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) honours Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa with the prestigious Information Communications Technologies (ICT) in Sustainable Developments Award at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The awarding ceremony is accompanied by a recorded speech by HRH the Premier at the event, in the presence of world leaders, heads of governments, diplomats, ambassadors, and Arab and foreign media delegates. Prince Khalifa’s speech will highlight Bahrain’s vision on the future of telecommunications, and its strenuous efforts to achieve more sustainable development.

The award, which coincides with ITU’s 150th anniversary, recognises the Prime Minister’s great contributions in achieving sustainable development in Bahrain. It also highlights Bahrain’s comprehensive development, which places it among the countries that use technologies to serve the citizens with positive returns.

Addressing another event hosted by UN yesterday in New York, Social Development Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh hailed the granting of the award to the Premier, and hinted at Bahrain’s plan to host a ministerial meeting to implement sustainable development plan for 2030.

Earlier, Bahrain celebrated winning the ICT Award with a top profile reception held at the UN Headquarters, attended by over 150 senior UN
officials.

HRH Premier had garnered praises from various Bahraini and global luminaries after he was named the winner of the ITU award in August.
