1 Killed, 8 Injured in Stampede During Jordan World Cup Watch Party

Amman: One person was killed and eight others injured in a stampede during a public screening of Jordan's World Cup match against Algeria in central Amman, authorities said.
The incident occurred at Hashemite Square, where large crowds had gathered to watch Jordan's 2-1 defeat to Algeria in the country's first-ever World Cup appearance.
Emergency teams transported nine injured people to hospital after heavy congestion and crowd movement triggered the crush. One of the injured later died, while the others suffered minor to moderate injuries.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the death and the circumstances that led to the stampede.
Large numbers of football fans had gathered across the Jordanian capital to follow the historic World Cup match.
