Social media accounts aimed at defaming the Kingdom managed by sources from Iran, Qatar, Iraq and European countries

An investigation launched by the Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security revealed on Sunday that social media accounts aimed at promoting sedition and harm civil peace are being managed by foreign sources from Iran, Qatar, Iraq and European countries (including France, Germany and Australia), in addition to fugitives who are convicted in absentia.

Director-General of the Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security stated the investigation an e-network against social unity and its administration, formed by Yousif Al-Muhafdha and Hassan Abdulnabi (Al Sitri ) who are both fugitives and live in Germany and Australia.

Further probe into the case revealed e-cells that back the network by providing false information from inside the country, along with promoting their suspicious messages. Those cells have been identified, and legal steps are being taken against those involved.

Citizens and social media users have been urged to be cautious when posting information and avoid reposting allegations by seeing information from official sources and avoid exploiting the social media in the spreading of malicious rumours that harm security and civil peace.
