Go-Ahead for Family Kiosks at Arad Fort
A trial row of kiosks for productive families is being studied for the Arad Fort seafront after the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry said it had no objection to the idea in principle.
Muharraq Municipality has been told to look at starting the pilot scheme and work with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and the Social Development Ministry on what can be built and how it would operate.
Municipalities Affairs Undersecretary Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said the study would make sure the scheme met planning and other rules before further action was taken.
His reply came after Muharraq Municipal Council called for a detailed feasibility study into placing kiosks along the waterfront, giving productive families a spot to sell directly to visitors.
Councillor Ahmed Al Maqahwi put forward the plan, which won majority support from the council’s Services and Public Utilities Committee.
Members said the kiosks would give home businesses another sales outlet and add shops and services for people using the walkway.
They also argued that the scheme would bring trade to the waterfront and help small producers reach customers face to face.
The Arad Fort seafront is one of Muharraq’s busier open-air spots, with the walkway drawing regular visitors beside the historic fort.
