Plastic surgeon acquitted in medical negligence case
A plastic surgeon and an anaesthesiologist have been acquitted of causing the death of a Bahraini patient following a botched plastic surgery due to lack of evidence.
The victim, in her thirties, had reportedly gone to a private hospital to undergo liposuction surgery for her abdomen.
Before the operation, the anaesthesiologist at the hospital conducted necessary tests to check some vitals.
However, she went into a coma after the surgery and she died later due to internal bleeding.
The Public Prosecution held the duo accountable for her death, accusing them of not abiding by proper medical practices before, during and after the surgery.
But the court found that the case lacked legal merit.
The surgeon’s lawyer had earlier argued that there was no evidence to hold his client accountable.
He stated that investigations had concluded that his client didn’t commit medical mistake.
He underlined that the patient’s tests deemed her fit to undergo such a surgery, and all the events happened later were out of his client’s control.
