GCC states flay Iran
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday summoned Iran’s Ambassador to UAE, Mohammad Reza Fayyad, and handed him a written protest note over the Iranian intervention in the sovereign affairs of Saudi Arabia. The note also flayed Iran for the attacks on the headquarters of Saudi diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad, UAE News Agency (WAM) reported.
“These acts represent a violation of international charters and norms,” WAM quoted UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying.
Qatar condemns
Qatar yesterday strongly condemned the attack on the Saudi embassy and its consulate in Iran. Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the attack represented a blatant violation of the Vienna 1961 Convention on Consular Relations.
The ministry called on the Iranian government to provide necessary protection to diplomatic missions and take suitable legal measures against those responsible for the
attack.
The statement also stressed Qatar’s support to Saudi Arabia in confronting all threats, backing all measures it takes to protect its security and stability.
Kuwait backs Saudi
measures
Kuwait also reiterated full support to all measures taken by Saudi Arabia to maintain its security, and strongly condemned attacks by Iranian demonstrators on the Saudi Embassy.
An official source at the Foreign Ministry said Iranian authorities were called to abide by all international rules and norms that stresses respect of other states’ sovereignty and non-interference in their internal affairs.
Jordan rebukes Iran
Jordan State Minister for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani voiced Jordan’s solidarity and support to Saudi Arabia in facing extremism. He also condemned the Iranian anti-Saudi Arabia rhetoric following the execution of convicted persons, Jordanian News Agency (Petra) reported.
More criticism from Saudi Arabia
The Secretariat General of Senior Scholars Council of Saudi Arabia denounced the statements of a number of Iranian Mullahs on the implementation of judicial rulings against terrorists in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the council said, “The entire Islamic World stands against Iran’s sectarian practices harming the unity of Muslims, calling on the Muslim world to denounce Iranian irresponsible statements and interference in an Islamic judicial affair in Saudi Arabia.”
