Bahraini women journalists have gained new support with the launch of a media committee led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW). MP Dr Maryam Al Dhaen welcomed the move, calling it a plain answer to calls from women working in the media.

“This decision follows on from talks at a recent meeting set up by the Supreme Council for Women, where media workers shared their views during the presentation of the National Plan for Bahraini Women’s Advancement 2025–2026,” said Dr Al Dhaen. “It’s a sign that the Council pays heed to concerns raised on the ground and shapes policy through proper dialogue.”

Dr Al Dhaen described the committee’s creation as a new step for women in Bahrain’s media, pointing to HRH Princess Sabeeka’s steady support for women’s progress.

She said media is key in shaping public opinion and showing the country’s successes.

“The committee will act as a national body, looking at the circumstances faced by women journalists from legal, regulatory, and practical angles,” Dr Al Dhaen said. “It will bring Bahraini achievements to the fore, raise the profile of women in both local and international media, and help prepare skilled women to take the lead in this field.”

Dr Al Dhaen welcomed the fact that the initiative comes from senior female leadership, and thanked HRH Princess Sabeeka for her steady efforts to bring fairness and equal chances for women across all fields in Bahrain.
