Abdalla Bows Out Of Games

Bahrain’s Ali Abdalla bowed out of the men’s 70kg boxing competition at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya yesterday after a 5-0 points defeat to Tajikistan’s Shamsher Saidov.
Abdalla, who had opened his campaign with a 4-1 victory over Turkmenistan’s Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov, saw his run come to an end in the round of 16 at Nishio Gymnasium.
The Bahraini made the stronger start, with four of the five judges awarding him the opening round.
Saidov responded by sweeping the second round before doing the same in the third, securing a unanimous decision with scorecards of 29-27, 29-27, 29-27, 29-27 and 30-26.
The result leaves Jorge Lobaina and Maryam Khamis as Bahrain’s remaining boxers at the Games following the earlier exits of Omar Budhahei and Hamsa Vogel.
Lobaina will make his first appearance tomorrow when he trades jabs with Kyrgyzstan’s Bakyt Toktosun Uulu in the men’s 90kg round of 16 at Nishio Gymnasium.
