Bahrain takes part in UN session on peaceful uses of outer space

Vienna The Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), participated in the 64th session of the Legal Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna.

Shaikha Hessa bint Ali bin Jaber Al Khalifa, a member of the Agency’s Legal Affairs Department and Second ViceChair of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space under the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), represented the Bahrain delegation.

The session addressed several critical legal matters related to outer space, including the review and implementation of the five UN treaties governing space activities, the legal demarcation between airspace and outer space, and the international legal framework for the exploitation of space resources.

Commenting on the Kingdom’s participation, Shaikha Hessa expressed pride in Bahrain’s active involvement, stating:

“This session represents a vital platform for enhancing international cooperation in the field of space law. The Kingdom of Bahrain continues to play an active role in shaping international space policy, in alignment with the vision of our wise leadership.”

She added, “The session achieved tangible progress, particularly in developing legal standards for the use of space resources, which are essential for establishing a comprehensive legislative framework that protects the rights of nations and ensures the peaceful utilization of outer space.”
