Ras Al Khaimah: A tragic drowning incident at the Adhan Dam in Ras Al Khaimah has claimed the life of a 16-year-old Emirati boy. The teenager, identified as Rashid Juma Ali Al Mazrouei, was on a weekend outing with his family when he slipped and fell into the water.
Despite a desperate rescue attempt by his cousin, the high water levels and thick mud following recent heavy rains made it impossible to pull him to safety. Rashid was eventually recovered and transported to a hospital, but was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.
The incident has sparked an immediate public outcry regarding the lack of safety infrastructure at the site. Residents noted that the dam remains entirely unfenced, despite attracting large crowds after significant rainfall.
Grieving family members and local citizens are now calling on the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to take urgent action. Their demands include the construction of cement barriers or iron fencing, the installation of surveillance cameras, and the placement of clear warning signs to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
