The University of Bahrain (UoB) has started issuing digital badges to its students in a first in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

UoB President Dr Riyadh bin Youssef Hamza said that Bahrain’s national university is among a few in the regions to have issued students' digital badges.

The UoB English Language Centre has issued digital badges to the first batch of 212 students who have completed the "Micro-credential Programme" - in cooperation with Shabaka Productions.

Digital badges represent evidence of the learner’s competence and qualification in a specific skill and a secure certificate of web-based accreditation, which facilitates the verification process, compared to paper certificates.

The UoB English Language Centre has designed the programme in order to keep pace with rapid global educational changes and to close job skills gaps.

A batch of 212 students who enrolled in the introductory stage was able to complete 1,379 training courses, which is equivalent to 5456 training hours. Six digital badges were validated immediately after issuance.
