Calls for Stronger Anti-Corruption Action

Bahrain highlighted its efforts to strengthen integrity, transparency and accountability at the sixth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention in Doha.

MP Mohamed Al Ahmad said Bahrain’s progress in combating corruption reflects the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the continued support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He said these efforts support an institutional approach based on the rule of law, transparency, accountability and the protection of public funds.

Al Ahmad also highlighted the Council of Representatives’ legislative and oversight role in strengthening anti-corruption measures. This includes reviewing oversight reports, holding relevant authorities accountable and developing legislation in line with international standards.

He stressed the importance of cooperation between the Council of Representatives and the National Audit Office (NAO), noting that the Office’s annual reports provide an important basis for parliamentary oversight and follow-up on financial and administrative observations and violations.

Al Ahmad said combating corruption is a shared national responsibility requiring coordinated efforts among legislative, oversight, executive and judicial institutions.

He also called for stronger legal protection for witnesses and whistleblowers, alongside a greater focus on prevention and public awareness.

Al Ahmad affirmed that Bahrain will continue developing its national anti-corruption framework and strengthening institutional cooperation to promote integrity and transparency, protect public funds and uphold accountability and the rule of law.
