No random slaughter of livestock: officials

Manama

Random slaughter of livestock at Hamala Stockyards Project has been banned by the authorities, says a recent circular issued here.

The decision was officially conveyed to breeders and livestock traders at the project site in the Northern Governorate by Animal Health Control Directorate of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry around 10 days ago.

However, only three traders were excluded and allowed to slaughter animals at the site, strictly during the three days of Eid Al-Adha.

It was informed that the three traders were granted permission after they appealed to the Ministry’s Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretary Shaikh Khalifa bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The circular stipulated that “random slaughtering is prohibited at the project site and only licensed slaughterhouses are allowed to slaughter animals.”

It was also confirmed that violators of the new decision would face legal accountability, in accordance with the animal slaughtering regulations in the Kingdom.

The circular is the first-of-its-kind in Bahrain and comes as part of the official endeavours to limit the random slaughtering of animals, which is unsupervised by state veterinarians and could lead to disastrous consequences.
