90 CRs suspended for illegal advertisements
Manama : The Northern Area Municipality has suspended 90 commercial registrations (CRs) during the past three months for illegal street advertisement, it was announced yesterday.
“1310 illegal signboards were removed from different parts of the Governorate,” said Northern Area Municipality General Director Yousif Al Ghatam.
Al Ghatam said that the operations were part of the national campaign to remove illegal street advertisements, adding that 95 CRs were suspended due to advertisement related violations.
“Randomly posting advertisements on public roads has become a phenomenon in the country, specifically in the Northern Governorate. The municipality has collected around BD4000 in fines recently. However, the violations continue,” Al Ghatam explained.
The official stressed that the advertisements violate Decree 14 of 1973, Law Decree 35 of 2001 and Resolution 23 of 2005, in relation to advertisements and public posts.
“Instructions were issued to the concerned departments in the municipality to take photographs of the violating signboards and street advertisements, and send it to the legal affairs departments who would inform the violating companies and warn them.
In case no response was received, the violations will be removed and fines will be imposed on the companies.
Further legal procedures will be taken in some cases, including notifying the Public Prosecution,” Al Ghatam added.
