London: Buckingham Palace announced Friday that Britain's King Charles III has paid more than £30 million ($41 million) in personal taxes since becoming monarch in September 2022, in a rare disclosure of the sovereign's private affairs.

The palace stated that the payments included personal income tax, capital gains tax, and inheritance tax on the King's own income and assets. Officials recognised the disclosure as part of an effort to increase transparency about the monarchy's finances.

The declaration excludes income received through the Sovereign Grant, which supports the monarchy's formal functions and is funded separately by the British government.

The announcement marks the first time a reigning British monarch has officially disclosed the amount of personal tax paid while on the throne.
