Chinese Electric Vehicle Exports Surge As Global Demand Rises

Beijing: China’s electric vehicle exports rose sharply in April, with overseas demand continuing to grow despite trade restrictions from the United States and Europe.

New customs data showed China exported more than 278,000 electric vehicles last month, a 40 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Total exports for the first four months of the year reached nearly 894,000 vehicles.

Asian countries imported the largest number of Chinese EVs, followed by Europe and Latin America. Demand also increased in countries such as Brazil, South Korea, Germany and Australia, where imports from China recorded major growth.

The rise in exports comes as Chinese carmakers continue expanding into international markets while facing tariffs and restrictions in Western countries. The United States has imposed a 100 percent tariff on Chinese electric vehicles, while the European Union has introduced additional duties on some Chinese-made EVs.

China remains the world’s largest producer of electric vehicles and accounted for most global EV production last year, according to international energy estimates. Chinese manufacturers also recorded a major increase in overseas sales in 2025, with exports reaching a record level.

Industry analysts expect global demand for electric vehicles to continue rising in the coming years as more countries shift toward cleaner transportation and lower-emission vehicles.
