Spain’s PM Slams US and Israel Over ‘unjust and Illegal War’ on Iran

Madrid: Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has strongly criticised the United States and Israel’s military actions against Iran, calling them part of an “unjust and illegal war.”

Speaking before Spain’s parliament in Madrid, Sánchez accused both countries of undermining international law, destabilising the Middle East, and reigniting tensions in regions such as Iraq and Lebanon.

He also warned that Gulf nations have been left more vulnerable due to decisions taken by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Sánchez further argued that the conflict has indirectly strengthened Vladimir Putin, as rising fuel prices and shifting sanctions dynamics benefit Russia amid its war in Ukraine.

Spain has maintained a firm stance throughout the crisis, denying the US access to key military facilities, including naval and air bases in Andalucía. In response, Trump criticised Spain’s leadership and threatened to cut trade ties.

Despite the tensions, Sánchez reaffirmed his position, stating that true alliances require adherence to shared principles and the courage to oppose actions deemed wrong.
