An Alaska Airlines flight had an unexpected encounter on the runway Thursday morning when it struck at least two deer while landing at Kodiak Airport.

According to airline spokesperson Tim Thompson, the aircraft’s landing gear was damaged in the incident, but thankfully, no injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

The flight had been arriving as scheduled when the deer ran onto the runway. Emergency crews responded quickly, and all passengers were safely brought to the terminal.

The airline is currently assessing the extent of the damage to the aircraft.

Wildlife collisions are rare but not unheard of in Alaska’s more remote airports.
