MTT, BCCI discuss new rules in land transportation sector

As part of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ strategic plan to develop the land transportation services, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Kamal Ahmed yesterday met representatives of taxi companies, local transport companies and car rental companies to discuss the proposed regulations and to get their input.

The move was also in line with the directives issued by the Cabinet to involve Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the review of the ministerial decrees,

The proposed ministerial decrees have been drafted based on the new Traffic Law.

The meeting was attended by Mariam Ahmed Jumaan, Undersecretary of Land Transport and Post Affairs; and Deputy Director of the Transport Committee at the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul Wahid Qarata. During the meeting, the minister said: “Following the issuance of the new Traffic Law, MTT aims at restructuring and developing the land transport sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance the level of transport services, covering taxis, rental cars, local transport, and the transportation of goods.”

He pointed out that the ministry’s role was to support and enable the newly-established companies in this field by facilitating the licensing process, which in turn contributes to creating suitable job opportunities for Bahrainis.

The minister then listened to the feedback from the participants and opened the floor for questions, stressing that the ministry valued stakeholder input and considered them wherever possible.

He thanked the attendees for taking part in the session with constructive and effective contribution, which MTT considers a critical success factor in improving the sector and creating optimum conditions for businesses operating or setting up in Bahrain.
