Hundreds of bats evacuated from building

Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Animal Welfare Center (BSPCA) has evacuated hundreds of bats from an under construction building which was found to have become home for them.
The bats were evacuated from a building in Duraz after a caller informed them about the situation. Workers at the building, which is under construction, noticed the bats and informed the building owner about it. They have informed of a strange odor and dirtied floor as well as the other signs of the residing bats.
"On Monday, 14 September, the BSPCA Animal Welfare Centre received a call from a woman in Duraz complaining about strange odor coming from the under construction building next to their residence. She complained that the strange odor started to get stronger, in addition to the dirty remains seen all around the third floor. She added that her father stopped the construction when the workers informed them that the bats had made their dens in the ceiling. He wanted to make sure not to harm them as they were important native beings," BSPCA stated.
"Our chairman, Mahmood, and the Director Paul, responded to the call and made a visit to the building where they noticed several dens located beneath the wooden panels throughout the rooms. When the panels were removed, more than 100 bats came out in chaos - that's when Mahmood and Paul opened the windows and many of them flew out. All the bats were not evacuated, but with daily mission of letting them out at night - hopefully the building will be 'bat free' in a few days," BSPCA stated.
