US Forces Intercept Iranian Drones Near Strait of Hormuz, CENTCOM Says
US Central Command (CENTCOM)) announced that American forces shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, in what officials described as a defensive action to protect international maritime traffic.
According to CENTCOM, the drones were detected and intercepted before they could pose a direct threat to commercial or military vessels operating in the region. The command stated that the incident reflects ongoing efforts by US forces to ensure the safety and security of key global shipping lanes.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil and trade flows, has frequently been a focal point of regional tensions. CENTCOM emphasized that US forces remain actively deployed in the area to deter and respond to any hostile activity.
In its statement, the command reaffirmed its readiness to act against further threats, saying: “American forces remain postured and ready to continue defending against Iranian aggression.” The interception comes amid heightened vigilance in the region, where maritime security remains a persistent concern for international stakeholders.
