Supreme Council for Environment hosted a virtual awareness lecture to mark World Environment Day, centred on the pressing issue of climate change and its impact on the Kingdom.
The online session, titled "Climate Change in the Kingdom of Bahrain", drew around 50 participants from government bodies, private sector organisations, and the environmental community—reflecting a broad cross-section of stakeholders committed to tackling climate issues.
Environmental specialist Ali Mohammed Al Saei led the lecture, walking attendees through the fundamentals of climate change—its root causes, key drivers, and the consequences it poses for Bahrain's environment and development trajectory. He spotlighted the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions and outlined the national initiatives underway to reduce them, including resource efficiency programmes and projects advancing the country's shift toward sustainable development.
The session sparked open discussion on the challenges climate change presents and the critical role public awareness plays in meeting them. Participants underscored the need for coordinated national action to manage environmental risks and deliver on long-term sustainability goals.
The Council reaffirmed its dedication to World Environment Day, describing the event as part of its ongoing commitment to education and outreach—key pillars of Bahrain's broader environmental protection and sustainable development agenda.
