Bahrain establishes diplomatic ties with East Timor
The Kingdom of Bahrain has announced the establishment of Diplomatic Relations with the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, in accordance with the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations as of 18 April 1961.
This came during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Co-operation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Dr Dionisio da Costa Babo Soares, where they signed a joint statement on the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that this step reflects the desire of the two countries to develop friendly relations and cooperation in all fields, based on mutual respect to serve common interests and contribute to continue coordination on all issues of common interest for the benefit of both countries and their friendly people.
