Manama suffers from stray dog menace

Manama

Stray dogs roaming in packs have become a nightmare to the passers-by at the entrance of the Government Avenue in Manama. Yesterday, an employee in Zamil Tower narrowly escaped from the attack of a stray dog.

“While I was going out a ferocious dog waiting outside the glass door jumped at me barking. Suddenly other two dogs also joined the first one,” the employee, who didn’t want to reveal his name, told DT News.

“No action has been taken to eliminate stray dogs here. We have to cop up with the issue every day. It is high time that the authorities should take steps to keep the stray animals away from city streets,” he said.

The nuisance of stray dogs, who have literally invaded the city roads, has caused some serious trouble in the neighbourhood. Street dogs are found roaming on other parts of the city namely Salmabad, Juffair and Zinj.

With summer gets heated up, the dog menace has also become unbearable at spots like the ground near Zinj signal. They often attack pedestrians, newspaper boys and strangers. Locals allege that the dogs are unkempt and can be carriers of the rabies virus.

Stray dog packs roaming in the busy streets have started affecting the motorists also, especially the two-wheelers. They also contribute in making the mess worse with dragging materials from trash bins to the streets.

Summer vacation is a time of great risk for many household pets in Bahrain. Vacationers who leave being their pets at home are landing them under the threat of being attacked by the stray ones.
